Welcome to our mountain paradise! Deep Creek Lake is situated in Garrett County in western Maryland at the northern tip enveloped by both West Virginia and Pennsylvania. DCL is within a days drive of tons of cities and towns including Washington DC, Northern VA, all of Maryland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, NYC, and Columbus just to name a select few.

Here at the lake we have 4 very active seasons that tie together with our lake, the largest freshwater lake in Maryland covering over 3,900 acres at a mountain elevation almost 1/2 mile high. If you are an outdoor enthusiast, then Garrett County is the place for you! We also host unlimited hiking and biking trails, the ASCI whitewater course, fishing, ice fishing, kayaking and rafting, golf, multiple fun zones with go carts and bumper boats, snowmobiling, horseback riding, shopping, festivals and events, state parks, frisbee golf, and we feature Maryland's only Alpine ski area, Wisp Resort, that has state of the art snowmaking capabilities that are recognized worldwide. The resort offers skiing, boarding, tubing, snow shoeing, cross country, and all other snow bound activities-not to mention the mountain coaster, the Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour, Challenge Courses, the year round alpine roller-coaster slide! You can mountain bike, partake in a downhill race, do a scenic lift ride, rent a segway or go on a buggy ride-all at Wisp Resort!

Finally, here at Deep Creek Lake the docks are going in the water! Spring is finally here so why is it going to snow this weekend? Oh well, it won't be long for some summertime fun Western Maryland Style! See you this summer :-)

The 2016 Deep Creek Dunk-Freezin for a Reason!

Check this You Tube Video out--it shows you what the Deep Creek Dunk is all about!!! Happening tomorrow, February 20, 2016 here in Garrett County with a kick off celebration tonight featuring Goosebumps and Grapes Wine Tasting at Honi Honi! $20 donation to the Special Olympics gets 21 year olds and up into the tasting tent! Hope to see you joining in on the festivities this weekend! The temperatures are expected to reach the 50's tomorrow, much better than the negative 15 degrees we had in 2015!!! Come have a blast, get splashed and support Maryland Special Olympics!

It's Here!

The snow has made it to Garrett County! Be safe, stay inside and ENJOY it! The plow trucks will be by, so don't fret! They may wait until there is a break in the snow though....

What's for Dinner?

One of my favorite places to eat at Deep Creek Lake is also one of the newest establishments! Deep Creek Seafood! Whether it be having an incredible seafood dinner with a very fine bourbon, or just eating raw oysters and a glass of wine at the bar while watching the game, what a cool business to have here at the lake! It is located just beside the movie theatre and across from Arrowhead Market. Stop by and say hi to Nate, and check it out!

Where do I recycle?

This question has came up about 3 times already today, so here is the answer for those of you that are interested.

Where can I recycle in Garrett County?

Local Recycling Site Locations:
Kings Run/Mt Nebo Site-1/4 mile east of Rt 219 on King’s Run Road
Bumble Bee Road Site-Bumble Bee Road 1 mile east of Garrett Community College

Hours:
Monday-Friday 7:00 am until 6:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am until 6:00 pm
Sunday 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm

My name is Shelia McCracken and this is my blog-so WELCOME and thanks for reading! A little bit about me...well, my background includes an array of expertise in the real estate, sales, and rental fields. Formerly I have held positions as Senior Director of Membership Development for Lifestyle Development LLC/Everlands Life, then 10 years with Intrawest Development/Playground Destination Properties in the Real Estate and Vacation Industry involving properties on the beaches, slopes, courses, lakes, mtns, waterparks, and Internationally then I made the transition to permanent Deep Creek Lake where I was a licensed agent and Manager of vacation rentals for Long & Foster. Recently, I have been involved in directing property management and vacation rentals as General Manager with Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales where I am also a licensed Real Estate Agent and member of the NAR. I attended Bridgewater College in VA and WVU in West Virginia where I studied law and International Studies. I obtained my real estate license in 1997 going on to become a Broker and licensed in multiple states. A few of my other passions include animal welfare, travel, cooking, fine art, wine, socializing and building relationships. In 2015 I became Vice President of HART for Animals, a local organization and business that has a main focus of saving the lives of homeless animals in Western Maryland. Originally from Snowshoe, WV, today I live here at the lake with my husband John, our 2 short-haired pointers Yukon and Tonka. John works for Wisp Resort where he is loving life! Living in Garrett County, we get to experience the mountain lake lifestyle everyday whether it be snow skiing or boarding, ice fishing, golfing, paddle boarding, boating, mountain biking, hiking or one of the many other recreational activities that we have grown to love.
